Occupation Summary
Prosthetic Representatives serve in the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at VA medical centers. The mission of the PSAS is to provide specialized quality patient care by furnishing properly prescribed prosthetic equipment, sensory aids, and devices in the most economical and timely manner in accordance with authorizing laws, regulations, and policies. PSAS serves as the pharmacy for assistive aids and as case manager for the prosthetic equipment needs of disabled veterans. The special mission of the PSAS is to be the VA Central Office advocate for a core population of veterans with special needs for prosthetic equipment, devices, and sensory aids.

Program Summary
This administration management intern program provides full-time training through a funded two-year internship, to include a trained mentor, a Personal Development Plan, a specific technical curriculum, relevant course work, on-the-job training, general training on the high performance development model and VA organization, and distance learning experiences. Training will expose the candidate to the full range of duties, including data analysis, statistics, budgeting, contracting, procurement, inventory management, human resources, and supervision.

Upon successful completion of the program, interns will be eligible for placement as permanent Federal employees in a Prosthetic Service that best fits their skills, needs, and circumstances. Our objective for this training program is to ensure that all interns enter their first placement position with the technical, professional, supervisory, and managerial knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to effectively manage a PSAS.

Qualifications
GS-5: Bachelor's degree or three years of experience that demonstrate knowledge of accounting methods, ability to analyze, comprehend, and apply decisions; basic knowledge of inventory management procedures; ability to use computer software packages, ability to compile, research, analyze, comprehend, and apply information or data; and ability to work as a team member in a group setting.

GS-7: Bachelor's degree in business; those in a medical field, e.g., kinesiotherapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, orthotics, prosthetics, nursing, etc.; public administration; health administration; or those in related courses of study; or one year of specialized experience at the next lower level. Must demonstrate ability to understand and apply procedures, regulations, and laws. In addition, have knowledge of procurement practices, appropriations, and obligations relating to accounts, general anatomy, and medical terminology, principles, and practices of budget formulation and execution.

GS-9: Master's degree or two full years of graduate education in the field of business or a medical field, or one year of specialized experience at the next lower level. Must demonstrate ability to maintain and control an inventory system and have knowledge of methods to identify trends and causation factors sufficient to analyze prepared data and gather information to inform and advise management.

The ability and willingness to relocate is a requirement for selection as a TCF Program intern. If relocation is necessary for permanent placement, VA pays for moving expenses. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
