Employment Coordination

VA believes that Veterans deserve real opportunities.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a long history of caring for our Nation's Veterans. Every day, we serve Veterans who have made the sacrifice to defend and support this country and our way of life. The Department fully supports the laws that place Veterans, and particularly Disabled Veterans, in a favorable competitive position for Government employment. We believe that affording Veterans their statutory preference in employment is not merely the obligation of a grateful Nation, it's good government and good business. It gives us an advantage in recruiting and retaining employees from a pool of the Nation's most highly motivated, disciplined, and experienced candidates.

Veterans Employment Coordination Service (VECS) is VA's lead office to attract, recruit, hire, and retain Veterans, particularly severely injured Veterans. Our staff consists of thirteen (13) Regional Veterans Employment Coordinators (RVECs) positioned at locations nationwide who provide a host of employment services for Veterans interested in pursuing careers at VA. Services include employment counseling, assistance in identifying transferable military skills (skills matching), qualifications and career assessment, assistance in drafting competitive resumes, instruction in developing comprehensive job search strategies, and direct job placement assistance. RVECs also advocate on behalf of Veterans, promoting the values, work ethic, leadership, dedication, skills, and qualifications Veterans possess, all of which makes them ideal candidates to fill any position in the Federal sector.

Proud Past, Promising Future

Since its inception, VECS has served as the model for establishing Veteran employment program offices throughout the Federal sector under the President's Federal Veterans Hiring Initiative. The organization plans to leverage that Executive Order to develop an integrated infrastructure to attract new and retain current Veteran employees as part of our Secretary's Veteran hiring goals.

We are extremely proud of our leadership role in promoting the hiring of Veterans and Disabled Veterans in the Federal sector, and we will continue to set the bar high to ensure all Veterans with a desire to actively participate in the workforce get the support and assistance they need from VA.
