Office of Community Care (OCC) is responsible for a broad range of activities to support the delivery of health care benefits for Veterans and their Dependents with health care services external to VA facilities. In addition, this business line plans, manages and supports the Claims Adjudication & Reimbursement (CAR) enterprise-wide learning and workforce development programs. The Claims Adjudication & Reimbursement Team's goal is to provide assistance to the field by leading the transformation of Cost Center business practices, implement health benefits policy, and to support the delivery of quality health care.

Duties

This position assists in the administration of a variety of functions to provide essential support to the Non-VA Medical Care Program, Claims Adjudication and Reimbursement Department. This position is responsible for the daily management of non-­-VA medical care mail distribution, scanning or claim forms and medical records, medical records indexing, medical claims verification, authorization data entry, record filing, and limited claims processing for the organization. Some of the other major duties are:

  • Communicates with Veteran's to assist them in filing claims and explaining what action is required by the Veteran to assist them with filing claims.
  • Assists veterans and providers with requests regarding payment issues, correct address and Preliminary Fee Remittance Advice Reports (PFRAR).
  • Notifies the voucher examiner that medical documentation has been received in order to initiate further action on rejected/suspended claims.
  • Corresponds with Veterans, Veteran's family members, and service officers to answer questions regarding eligibility and claims processing.
  • Tracks notes that ensure the dates of service have been reviewed by the nurse case manager and have been approved or denied.

      Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

      • Ensures all incoming documents and claims are properly opened, date stamped, and sorted into established categories for scanning.
      • Plans, organizes and carries out assignments in accordance with the established policies and practices of the office.
      • Verifies specific data points are read by the scanning equipment accurately.
      • Scans medical documentation and indexes the medical records to the organization's electronic file.
      • Inputs and/or extracts data from the data systems as assigned.
