Support For the Next Phase of Your Career

Whether you decide to work in a VA medical center, nursing home, or one of our 900 outpatient clinics, VA offers a high level of support to pharmacists transitioning from retail pharmacy to a VA practice. You can hone your drug knowledge and clinical skills in the following ways:

  • Orientation—All newly appointed VA pharmacists complete an extensive orientation program. This training, along with a supportive credentialing process, ensures you are competent and comfortable in an environment before you are assigned
  • Residency opportunities—If you want to enhance your clinical skills, VA offers the largest residency program for advanced clinical pharmacy training in the Nation
  • Ongoing education opportunities—VA offers tuition reimbursement and other scholarship programs for professional continuing education (subject to funding availability)
  • Pharmacist network—VA pharmacists support each other, in person and through a nationwide network of more than 6,000 pharmacists linked via e-mail groups, conference calls, regional meetings, and national pharmacy conferences

Many paths. One purpose. Explore VA careers.
