This announcement establishes an open continuous register of eligible applicants to be considered for future vacancies with the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System. Duties

The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) has an immediate opening for a fulltime BC/BE UNOS-certified Transplant Surgeon with fellowship training at an American Society of Transplantation Surgery certified program. Independent practice experience in abdominal transplantation and donor organ retrieval are required. The primary role of the position is organ retrieval with 24 hour availability, 28 days per month. Limited opportunity for primary surgeon duties for transplantation procedures. Qualifications for academic appointment through the University of Pittsburgh for resident and medical student teaching are required. VHA is the largest healthcare system in the United States, and VAPHS has state-of-the-art surgical technologies and serves as the acute tertiary care referral center for a large veteran population in Western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. VAPHS is closely affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh.

Work Schedule: This is a Full-Time position (80Hrs/per pay period)

      • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
      • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
      • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
      • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
