The Medicine Division at the Salisbury VA Healthcare System in North Carolina is seeking a full-time physician with training, interest, and expertise in Rheumatology to function as Section Chief of the Rheumatology Department. The ideal candidate may be board certified/eligible in Rheumatology.
The physician specialist is to join a multidisciplinary medicine program providing complex inpatient and outpatient care. The incumbent should have leadership skills and motivation to provide oversight of administrative operations, clinical care, and teaching with responsibilities that include the supervision of fellows from Wake Forest University Rheumatology Fellowship Program. The program manages patients with broad spectrum of connective tissue diseases with access to outpatient IV infusion center. The Rheumatology program is highly focused on outcomes and strongly encourages research activity. There are opportunities for leadership in the area of clinical trials.
The Section Chief of Rheumatology has a broad range of authority with the responsibility for setting the direction of the inpatient medical programs, direction and supervision of the Rheumatology staff, maintaining professional standards, maintaining quality control standards, and participating in provider patient care and consultation. The incumbent serves as clinical authority for professional, licensed, and certified hospitalist staff. The incumbent must demonstrate skills in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives including ensuring that high quality care is provided. The incumbent will also be responsible for developing, monitoring, and implementing clinical practice standards, policies and procedures for Rheumatologists and oversight of the quality assurance process. The Section Chief of Rheumatology will report to the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine.
Candidates will have academic appointment with Wake Forest University commensurate on the level of experience and interest.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
