Championing the Cause.

Every day, Department of Veterans Affairs discovers a new story that inspires each of us to help others, serve our communities, and achieve our personal best.

Our latest comes from our very own, Natalie Dell, M.P.H., a Health Services Research and Development Service (HSR&D) project coordinator. Natalie and her teammates earned Olympic Bronze Medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's Quad Scull Olympic Final, effectively ending a 28-year drought for Americans in that sport.

Natalie, who earned a master’s degree in public health from Boston University, is currently a project coordinator for mental health studies at the Bedford VA Medical Center. In her role, she is responsible for focusing on depression and post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) in Veterans — and helping them locate the resources necessary to get their lives on track.

A behind the scenes look at the making of "VA’s Mental Health PSA" featuring Natalie Dell.

In an effort to raise public awareness for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Mental Health Hiring Initiative, a 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) was created featuring Natalie Dell, a VA mental health employee and Olympic medalist at the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Mental Health Hiring Initiative aims to add approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians – to include nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers as well as nearly 300 support staff to its existing workforce of 20,590 mental health staff as part of an ongoing review of mental health operations.

The VA Public Service Announcement featuring Natalie can be seen on a number of television stations nationwide.
