Intermediate Care Technician
The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Program is a VA career track integrated with VA’s Transitioning of Military Personnel project designed to take advantage of the military training and experience of medics, hospital corpsmen, health service technicians and para rescue specialists in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) to provide health care to Veterans. ICTs are expected to function in a health care role commensurate with their military experience and training without the need for a license or additional credential. ICTs will provide a higher level of clinical support to both nursing and medicine and to more effectively utilize the skills that they acquired while on active duty.
ICTs are currently being utilized primarily in VA Emergency Departments, however additional clinical areas will be opened to the ICTs as the program is expanded nationwide. ICTs are currently working in all geographic areas of the U.S. and in Puerto Rico. It is anticipated that nearly every VA Medical Center will be utilizing ICTs in the future as the program expands and matures.
All enlisted or former enlisted military members serving in medical occupational codes are potential candidates for the ICT Program. Open positions will be posted on the USA.JOBS website.
